Professor Olayemi Durotimi Akinwumi has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja.
His appointment was announced on Friday afternoon by the Governing Council of the university.
He will take over from Angella Miri who is due for retirement.
The new Vice Chancellor, is a professor of History from Nassarawa state University.
He is the current deputy vice Chancellor in the university.
He is am a Professor of African history at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Nigeria. He is a Fellow of the Historical Society of Nigeria and the immediate past president of the Historical Society of Nigeria.
He is also a recipient of many national and international awards, which include the German Alexander von Humboldt, the DAAD and the Stellenbosch Institute of Advanced Study.
He has also published in many local and international journals. He is the author of the Colonial Contest of the Nigerian Region: A History of the German Participation and also Crises and Conflicts in Nigeria: A Political History Since 1960. Both are published by the LIT Verlag in Germany.
