Ambassador Oladele John Nihi has apologies to Kogites for the uncharitable statement credited to Senator Smart Adeyemi where he spoke against appointees of Governor Yahaya Bello particularly the Chief of Staff for complementing their principal by giving back to the people through various initiatives.
Nihi said Senator Smart Adeyemi’s statement is unsmart and does not reflect what the good people of Kogi West Senatorial District represent.
There is no doubt in the fact that the good people of Kogi West Senatorial District and particularly Okun people are known for their love and passion for education. As a matter fact, the importance of education to humans cannot be overemphasized. No wonder, many international human rights organization consider education as a fundamental human rights of every citizen of a country.
How then can we explain a sitting and ranking senator of the federal republic representing the highly intellectually mobile people Kogi West describe an initiative aimed at reviving education in Kogi State particularly reading culture, easy writing, etc as distraction? This is politics taken too far.
Senator Smart Adeyemi should have known better that there are areas you cannot play politics with, education sector is one of such vital and extremely important area. I can imagine how embarrassed the good people of Kogi West Senatorial District will feel reading such unsmart statement. Okun land is blessed with beautiful brains and talents, taking a look at Educational aspect of life, Okun is blessed with over three hundred (300) professors and Doctors. Unfortunately, the senator representing such brains sees an effort to revive education in Kogi State as a distraction.
It is on record that, it was at the said event organised by Pharmacist Abdulkareem Asuku Youth Empowerment Foundation (PAAYEF) an initiative of the Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor that His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, promised a 30% of 2022 budget for education sector.
At this same event that Senator Smart Adeyemi claimed is a distraction, Governor Yahaya Bello challenged his appointees to emulate his Chief of Staff, Pharmacist Abdulkareem Asuku Jamiu as none of them can afford to go below the standard he (their principal) has set.
I therefore call on Senator Smart Adeyemi to focus on the reason he is elected and stop discouraging men and women of goodwill contributing in their own way to complement the good work and effort of Governor Yahaya Bello. He should not worry about who succeed the governor or where the person will come from, when we get to the bridge, we shall all cross it.
