The State Security Adviser to Kogi State Government, Comdr. Duro Jerry Omodara (Rtd) decried the unfortunate inferno that occurred at the Government Secondary School, Iluke, Kabba /Bunu LGA of the State.
He stated that, in a time like this, he could not but sympathize with the community for the distress they must have gone through in the past hours and the energy geared towards putting out the fire before it wrecked so much havoc on the school properties.
He described the incidence as unfortunate, saying it is important to keep fire far away from our immediate environments because properties are prone to fire outbreak due to the harmattan, as almost all trees and bushes are already dried.
Comdr. Omodara in his words said, as painful as the destruction is, it is inappropriate to blame any one for the occurrence, until extensive investigations are carried out and perpetrators brought before the law.
Also, the State Security Adviser, commended the prompt actions of the Executive Chairman – Hon. Moses Olorunleke who sent his team together with the members of the Kabba /Bunu Legislative Council, ably led by Rt. Hon. Towonifinni Mosiko, the Council Leader, to carry out on the spot accessement of the level of destruction that the fire might have caused.
He therefore charged the school authority, people and the host community to assist in averting future occurrences by keeping the entire school environment free of bushes, shrubs /trees that might cause subsequent fire outbreak or any other harmful damages.
“I wish to plead with all well meaning Bunu people, associations religious /political leaders to combine efforts with both the Local and the State Governments, through the Ministry of Education to raise funds for the immediate renovation of the School, in order for the students to resume full activities, as we can not afford to jeopardize the education of our children because education is the bedrock of any societal development”, he said.
