WELCOME ADDRESS BY HRM OBA WILLIAMS OLUSEGUN AYENI (JP), OLUJUMU OF IJUMU KINGDOM AT THE 2020 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF IJUMU DEVELOPMENT UNION (IDU) HELD AT IYARA
To God be the Gory for great things He has done for us especially for the opportunity to witness a day like this. I decided to start by giving God all the glory because you are all aware of the life threatening disease, popularly known as Covid-19 that ravaged the entire world and many states in Nigeria in 2020.
My dear people of Ijumu Kingdom, we are all gathered here today to brainstorm on the way forward for Ijumu, assess the performance of the outgoing Exco’s and probably choose new ones.
As we all know, there’s nothing that has a beginning without an end and that is why I want to congratulate the outgoing IDU executives led by Mr. Taiye Atibioke for leading this noble body effectively and efficiently in the last four years. Also, I can’t but appreciate your role in promoting the ideals of our fathers who formed this body as the Voice of Ijumu many years ago.
I am much aware of the challenges faced during the outgoing tenure. The time has come for us to support IDU to enable them achieve the aims and objectives of its establishment.
Our Obas should be alive to their responsibilities by cooperating with Ijumu Development Union in their quest to promote unity and peace in our Local Government.
I want each and every one of us to take this home today. Nobody will come from anywhere to develop Ijumu for us except we come together, reason together and work together as one indivisible entity.
Ijumu Obas and stakeholders here present, it is high time we began to preach oneness, love and Unity among our people as these are the only tools for peace and development in any society.
No doubt, this year has been the most challenging one as you all know that we lost our brother, Barrister Kola Ojo, beloved daughter, Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile, shut down of businesses, schools and offices as part of measures to control the spread of the deadly Virus.
My Royal fathers, IDU Executives, Presidents of Community Development Associations, ladies and gentlemen, you will all agree with me that God has been merciful to Kogi State and Ijumu Kingdom as our dear Local Government has not recorded any outbreak of Corona Virus except the unfortunate death of our beloved son, Major General Olu Irefin, may his gentle soul rest in peace.
The death of General Irefin and AIG Osanaiye has created a vacuum too difficult to fill and I pray that God will console their families, Ijumu people as well as officers and men of the Nigerian Army.
At this point, we need to intensify more prayers for all Ijumu sons and daughters even as the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic has commenced.
While we wishing you all happy deliberations, I also wish you joyous New Year in advance. May 2021 be a year of positive turn around for Ijumu Kingdom.
Thank you all and God bless you.
